Every Couple Has a Story - Hear Ours

Some folks say love at first sight is real. Others say there is no way it exists. But we truly believe if God wants two people to meet, it is certainly more than possible. We are so proud to be each other’s person. God has blessed us with friends and family that we definitely don’t deserve, and He continues to bless us on this journey.

In every way possible, our love for broadcasting brought the two of us together. Marcus eats, sleeps, drinks all things sports, and at the time, I had an interest in news. We met as two aspiring anchors at a small TV station in eastern Kentucky.

Before packing up my belongings to haul from the bustling streets of Northern Kentucky to the mountains, I had been praying that God would show me my purpose in Hazard. Folks, saying I was terrified was an understatement. (Talk about culture-shock!) A couple weeks in, with only my career on my mind, I realized God had a much larger plan for me to begin to discover.

In one visit to the sports office, Marcus wooed me without even trying. (Or so I thought. He was dressed spiffy for a reason, so I’m told.) Though he was busy working and focused on meeting deadlines, he made time for eye-contact and a large smile. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. People are NOT kidding when they say, “You just know when you know.” I said my goodbyes and walked to the door. No sooner than I rounded the corner, I thought, “I could marry this guy.”

And after a couple shared text messages, and a date at our favorite Mexican restaurant, the two of us were determined to tackle this thing we call life, together.

Broadcasting is a hard business. It can be rewarding, but it can also take its toll. As time went on, I knew my heart wasn’t in it. And that’s okay! All I knew was that I wanted a camera in my hands.

During a trip to Nashville, Marcus and I discovered we felt the same way. In just a few hours, we had a business plan written out, and two HUGE SMILES as we dreamed of taking our love for videography in another direction. Hence … Compass Films.

It’s hard to admit to yourself that a lifelong dream has to come to an end, but boy, have I never felt more peace about a decision than this one. When I look at Marcus from across the room as we capture important life moments, I just think, “My goodness, we are living our best life.”

God truly does write the best stories, folks. You just have to hand Him the pen. And then if you feel a connection, feel free to hand over the camera to us.

We love sharing our story and we really CANNOT WAIT to share yours. We look forward to meeting you lovely couples, and hope we can do every wedding film with justice.

You’ve heard our story…now we want to hear from you!
